Time aggressively marches on

My goodness, time sure is on an aggressive march. It seems like just yesterday I was building my first website, spry, young, and 20.

Now, at 40, I’m at a crossroads. At the dawn of the age of artificial intelligence, the cacophony of war, and the realization of mortality, it’s about damn time I went out on my own.

I voluntarily left my most recent consulting gig three weeks ago, into a new world. Artificial intelligence has all but eaten software engineering alive. What used to take months of laborious effort now takes hours. I rebuilt this entire website in the course of 24 hours. This is a new frontier, and the old way of doing things won’t get us very far.

It’s time to get brutally honest: I never really much enjoyed building software professionally. It was exhausting to try to get the machine to do what you wanted it to do. But now that the friction is evaporating, now that an idea can be turned reality in days, what’s to stop someone from going out on their own and building an empire? When the only limit is your imagination, why go get another lousy job?

Stay tuned. There’s so much more to come.
